Scouring and Carding Service

I offer small batch scouring and carding, up to five fleeces at a time. I will weigh the fleeces upon pick up, a 50% deposit is required before service is provided. Remainder of payment is required upon pickup. If you are local to the Cowichan Valley, we can arrange pick-up and drop-off at no cost. For those outside the Cowichan Valley, contact me to see about arranging transport in both directions.

 

I do the best I can, but there will always be some residual vegetable matter that remains. How well a fleece is skirted and picked before scouring will determine how much will be left. The same is true for second cuts. Note that lanolin, poop, and vegetable matter can count as much as 40% of the weight of the raw fleece.

Special note about Icelandics and other dual-fibre sheep: I do not separate the tog from the thell.

Depending on the time of the year and how long the queue is, it can take a few weeks or months for me to treat your fleeces. I will provide an estimate at the time of drop off of when you can expect your fleeces to be completed.
